Hillary couldn’t break the glass ceiling — but Kamala will.

Eight years after Democrats sent Hillary Clinton as their presidential nominee, another woman is sweeping the presidential scene: Kamala Harris. When the current vice president first received the nomination, the nation was shocked. Everyone had one question: Was America ready for a woman president?

In 2016, the answer was no. Even though polls showed Hillary Clinton pulling ahead of her opponent, Donald Trump, in key states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, she inevitably lost in a 304 to 227 electoral vote.

Now, many voters feel they are watching a repeat of 2016. Harris is in a 3% lead to Trump according to the polls, but with 67 days left on the campaign trail, much could change. This year is unusual, for many factors: a convicted felon and woman POC as candidates, a short campaign trail, and the use of social media influencers and celebrities to mobilize young voters.

At last week’s Democratic National Convention, thousands rallied together, truly embodying the democratic spirit. On the first night, Hillary Clinton congratulated Harris for her work on shattering the “highest and hardest glass ceiling.” As women, it's often hard to break into politics. However, Kamala serves as an inspiration to girls around the world. 2024 is the year America is ready for a woman president.
